Recently I've adquired the books of the latest version of the game...

Anyone wants to bring forward the samurai they got in? ;)

Timeline important note:

I'll set it in the time of the first edition... with Kachiko, Hitomi, Toturi and the rest still in their normal positions, no clan wars, no alliance with the shadowlands for the crab, no toturi emperor... never liked that the events at the cards tournaments decided the rpg timeline...

Hey! Glad to have someone interested in...

Don't know of anything like that... the game is settled in a ficticiuos world similar to medieval Japan and China. There's an Emperor, descedent of one of the Kami ( Gods ) who falled from the Celestial Heavens.

There are Seven Great Clans, founded by the brothers and sisters of Hantei, the first Emperor, their followers bound by the oaths that they made to their brother...

There is a huge wall, the Carpenter Wall, constructed to defend the Empire agaisnt the black hordes of Fu Leng, the last of the fallen kami, corrupted and determined to destroy what his brothers built....

There are bushi, samurai warriors with a great range of martial displays, capable of bring down the most powerful oni ( demons ) or adversaries with a strke of their katanas.

There are powerful Shugenja, part priest, part wizard, who commands the very elements of the world to do their bidding.

There are monks, ascets who travel the world spreading the teachings of Shinsei, the Little Master, the one who gather the Seven Thunders and together defeated Fu-Leng himself.

There are ninjas, who sneak in the darkness of the night and learn dark secrets and commit precise killings...

If you are still interested we could create a character in this same topic ( perharps hooking someone in the process ;) )

The system is pretty simple. It uses only d10. And you have to beat a Target Number ( TN ). You add your attribute and skill and keep only the number of dice you have in your attribute, then add them.

For example. You have  Agility 3 and a skill in Kenjutsu of 2. You roll 5 dice and keep 3 to hit your enemy; 3 / 3 / 5 / 10 / 3 / you keep the 10, 5 and 3 for a total of 18.

First of all you have to choose, how your character became a Ronin? Was he a former member of one of the seven clans and for some reason he had became ronin, or he was born from a samurai and a peaseant and cannot reclaim his noble heritage?

In each of the seven clans there are families who belongs to that clan. Tipically there are three families, one for the bushi ( warriors ) one for the shugenja ( wizards ) and one for the courtisans. But any member of any family could choose another path, for example Hida ( Crab bushi family ) could be a shugenja but this is rare...

By the way the seven clans are:

- Crab: Hard and studierst of all clans, the Crab had maned and defedend the Great Wall agaisnt the Shadowlands since its creation. Almost 2000 years ago. Let the Crane fight their duels and sing their songs, let the Phoenix theorise about the true nature of the Void, let the Dragon hide in their mountains, let the Scorpions with their schemes.. when the hordes of the Fallen One come, when the Oni cut across the lines of the Lion like grass, when their hearts fail and they all run for their lives, then the Crab will stand, the Crab will hold the line and drive the undead, the horrors that hide in the dark to their dens, for the rest of the Empire could sleep in their beds at night...

- Crane: The most graceful and political influential clan. They master anything they commit, art, swordmaking and Iaijutsu duels.

- Dragon: The dragon clan lives in the heights of its mountains, almost isolated to the rest of the Empire. Its warriors are knownk to master the Nitten Ryu, two swords techniques. The rivality with the Crane to be the better duelists in the Empire came from the very founders of the clans...

- Lion: The most honourable of all clans, the most military ones. Their sacred duty is to be the army of the Emperor. They used to had territories disputes with the Crane, and their battles are ferociuos, even in the court, fighting to be the most valuable clan for the Emperor.

- Phoenix: The most renowed shugenja of all the Empire came from the Phoenix Clan. Their knowledge of the elements gave them incredible powers.

- Scorpion: The most lethal of all clans. The most feared. They are the secret keepers, for they know all, of everyone. Do you have a secret relationship with a Heimin? ( peaseant ) Are you going to be caught and will make your family to lose honor? One day a Scorpion could approach you, offer you help.. for nothing, they just must assure that the Empire is in peace, and seeing a noble and honorable samurai like you and your family to be in disgrace will only bring suffering... you accept... two days later your lover is gone, never to be heard about. But things are happening to fast now, suddenly you are promoted to be the city Magistrate, so you have a lot of new responsabilities to deal with, you don't much time to look for your lover... one day one scorpion will approach you and ask you a favor... of course, you couldn't refuse...

- Unicorn: The Unicorn clan went to the outside world to explore it. They were missing for more than 1000 years. 500 years ago they have returned. They bring weird accents, weird clothes and weird manners. But above all they bring their incredible horses with them. The unicorn cavalry is by far the better of all the Empire. While the rest of Rokugan ride small, almost like ponies, horses, the tall, fast and powerful horses of the Unicorn give them a mobility and speed matched by none.
