Well here's your chance to post your favorite/weirdest/or just all around creepiest character, or just one you're going to be using in an upcoming campaign, whatever it is, I wanna' see it so post away!

    re: D&D Characters

I was running the Lord of the Iron Fortress module, and as usual, I decided to remake most of the NPCs using all of the books and following the guidelines I've set forth for the characters. I enjoy doing it, not only because it gives me a chance to become familiar with all of the rules from the different handbooks, but also it gives the players interesting and powerful allies and enemies.

Well, I was redoing Mandrake (I'd say it was a spoiler, but my players never discovered his name, so it probably doesn't matter) and thought I had come upon a way to make him really impressive.

First of all, I increased his class level to 16, to match my players at the time. I gave him 40 character points (we started quite over powered when we first started D20, and even though in new campaigns we start with 30 character points, all characters for this campaign continue to get 40), then I got to work.
    His stats were as follows:
    Str: 20, Dex: 18, Con: 18, Int: 10, Wis: 14, Cha: 10
His AC was 30, he had armor of fortitude (75% immune to sneak attack and critical hits)
He had 178 hit points, an extensive array of impressive skills. His saving throws were awesome, Fort: 17, Ref 13, will: 10
He used two bastard swords +4 of keenness, strapped to his back in an X-shaped configuration. He had improved critical with bastard swords, exotic weapon proficiency(so he could use it in one hand), greater 2 weapon fighting, spring attack, and boots of springing and jumping.

I thought he would be absolutely awesome.

The party came across a hill, and down below they saw the cave they were looking for, some distance away, near a large crevasce, they saw a weird barren tree, barely holding onto the metal landscape. The party thought it was weird, but still prepared for combat upon entering the cave.

Little did they know that the tree was Mandrake in treeshape form, after the party passed by, he went down into the crevasce where he used a magical item to giant growth his 2 dire tigers. Then he came up and attacked the 4 16th level characters.

4 rounds later, he was dead, one of the dire tigers had been brought down from 330 or so hit points to 3 (then subsequentially killed with a crossbow bolt), the other dire tiger was dead, and the party was busy looting the corpse. :-(

Oh well, they were scared, for the first round or so. The worst thing was that the moment the party saw the 60' long dire tigers, half the party activated their haste, their "fly" magical items, and had gone up in the sky as fast as they could, so that they could rain death down upon the attackers. Mandrake had polymorphed into a demon elf thing (fromt he monsters of forgotten realms compendium), but it wasn't enough to really even use a significient amount of resources.

    re: D&D Characters

Well, Jason could tell you how intricate my characters tend to be, but here are a couple of my recent favorites.

I played a human druidess raised by Selkies. Her first animal companion was a sea turtle named Stufflebeam that she kept in her pouch - never did anything, just a role-playing thing (her adopted sister who was killed by humans 5 years ago had named it). Then later she adopted a blind dire wolf she named Selen because her eyes were pure white.

Okay, to start with, I wrote way too much background for the character (including curse words in Selkie and the entire subculture of the race), but the most interesting thing was several levels into the campaign when one of Natua's favorite NPC's died. Well, she had heard that high level clerics can bring people back from the dead with just a small piece of their body, so she made one of the other PC's use mage hand to yank out a chunk of the dead NPC's hair as the body was being swallowed. Anyways, she found a bank willing to store the lock of hair for her indefinitely (for a price - but she really didn't care about money) and then she took her next level in cleric. See, that way you never have to lose the ones you love or feel guilty when you get your friends killed. :)

Well, the other character I really liked was my half-elf Ellena Drake, who started out as a neutral aligned 0-level wizard. The culture she was from didn't think women should learn the arcane arts, so she was taught in secret by her older brother (who refused to teach her combat spells 'cause he was afraid she'd hurt herself...or someone else). Well, shortly into the campaign, she was possesed by the spirit of a lawful good silver dragon who transfered his mana to her as he lay dying. Apparently, though, he himself was possesed by an evil witch, so her spirit came along for the ride.

So, this insane little girl ended up as a wizard/ranger/cleric/divine disciple (roughly neutral good though she occasionally radiated evil) who could change into a silver dragon (via spell), heard voices, smoked a pipe, and kept a flask of whiskey next to her spare spell book (the real one was tattoed into her flesh.) Eat your heart out, Ethan!

Come one, come all, and join our troup - boredom's the common foe.
A diverse and eccentric group, adventuring we go.

    re: D&D Characters

Cool, somebody who has the same affinity for over complicated characters that I do. That was all pretty impressive and stuff but let's see you out do this. He's a character I made for fun and I
haven't been able to play him because our group's never gotten to level 20. Stats are shown in both "regular"/transformed versions.

    Gautsu
Level 20 Half Celestial Were-Bear Troll Monk Fighter
    HP 380/460 AC 65/68 Spd:60 and 120 flying Init+21/22
    Saves:Fort+37/38 Ref+34/35 Will+26

    STR 38/42
    DEX 44/46
    CON 34/42
    WIS 34/34
    INT 10/10
    CHA 11/11

    Attacks:
    Not transformed: Orc Double Axe +25, +25, +23, +19, +15 2d6+21
    Transformed: Orc Double Axe +27, +27, +25, +21, +17 2d6+24
    2 claws+27 1d8+24, Bite +22 1d6+8

Special Attacks:Light (at will), Protection from evil 3/day, bless, aid, detect evil, cure serious wounds, neutralize poison, holy smite, remove disease, dispel evil, holy word, holy aura 3/day, hallow, symbol, summon monster IX (celestials only), resurrection, rend 2d6+21 (+24 transformed)

Special Abilities:Low light vision, regenerate 5, acid/cold/disease immunities, poison resist +4.

Feat:Weapon Focus, Weapon Specialization, Improved Critical (all Orc Double Axe), Dodge, great fortitude, lightening reflexes, two weapon fighting, improved initiative, alertness, iron will, Unarmed Strike, Stunning fist, Evasion.

Equipment:Ioun Stone (deep red +2 Dex), Amulet of natural armor +4, Bracers of armor +8, Gloves of Dexterity+6, Periapt of Wisdom+6, Ring of elemental resistance major, ring of shielding+5, +5 Orc Double Axe, Manual of bodily health+5, Tome of Understanding+5, Manual of Quickiness in action+5

This should all be correct, there might be a few things wrong but that doesn't really matter. I've only used this char in mock battles between me and my friends but one day I hope to unleash him upon a campaign. I'm pretty sure he can take a great red wyrm single handedly but I haven't tried it yet... hmmmmm... I think I'll go do that now...

    re: D&D Characters

Interesting or overcomplacated characters huh? I've never been much into over complicated but I ALWAYS liked interesting. In fact I like to draw up the most useless sounding character I can think of and then see what happens.

So for this post lets descuss Cedric. Cedric is on older character of mine from on old ADnD campaign. He's a bard. Those of you who have seen ADnD bards will realize that they where very much jacks of all trades and masters of none. Cedric also had the Advantage of being a compleate coward. He has been close to death more times that I care to think of. Actually dead more then once. Somehow cowering behind ones sword in the face of a dragon is not an Effect stratigy. It's fun though. So where do you send a cowardly bard to keep him safe and sound? Why ravenloft of course!

    re: D&D Characters

Dunno about weird or overcomplicated, but here are the characters in my current D&D FR game.

    Ginafae Xarann of Waterdeep(Chaotic Neutral Female Half-Drow Fighter 1/Ranger 1/Rogue 1)

Barely 5' tall, she packs enough attitude for someone twice her size and a nasty Whip-Dagger to deal with life's little problems.

Gilliam Saintbrook of Tethyr(Chaotic Good Male Strongheart Halfling Sorceror 3)

A happy-go-lucky young Hin out to see the world before returning home, he's reluctantly ready for danger with his trusty spells and Sling.

Kayla Stormhorn of the Western Heartlands(Chaotic Good Female Human Fighter 2/Sorceror 1)

Towering over most men like the mountains she calls home, this gentle giantess seeks the answer to her dreams of Dragonhood, Greatsword at the ready to defend her loyal comrades.

Lander Brightmoon of Silverymoon(Neutral Good Male Human Cleric 3 of Mystra)

Intelligent and serious, he dresses like a storybook Wizard, and is a fount of knowledge for his companions. Make fun of his hat, though, and feel the stout wood of his Staff upon your crown.

    re: D&D Characters

I have a character that I made for a "home-grown" game that Rich came up with and I helped edit and re-deisgn (there were 2 incarnations of it). In this world, there existed your normal races (drawves, elves) but not in your usual manner. Elves were like 8 feet tall and extremely lith and gangly. Drawves were creatures or living metal almost. Anyways, it was a unique world that I enjoyed playing in (I plan on one day reviving it and maybe bringing it over to D20).

This character I created was a half-breed (ya, I stole the typical half-breed who struggles through the world becasue he's different but with a twist). This was a half-breed Human-Elf named El-Sh'nar (elf of two worlds). His mother was Elven and father was Human. I can't list stats because it was created using a different system and I mainly used him as a NPC. About all I can say was he is a handsome fighter/sorceror. As time went on I developed more and more into this character. What turned into a 1-2 page character description and background turned into a 20 page mini-story. A few years later I picked up the Elric of Melniboné books and realized that my character was similar to his. While Elric suffered from destroying his own race, mine suffered from not being there to defend the love of his life. My character suffered from guilt and remorse sometimes to the point seeking death in combat to escape the emotional turmoil. Anyways, to make a long story short in was a very deep character. Deep to the point that I later tried writing a novel based on the character. I say tried because I tend to be none too passionate about writing (writing only when the mood strikes me). I got about 35 pages into it when I just stopped writing. I just wasn't in the mood to write and haven't been in a while. I have another book that I have 125 pages on but as I approach the end I see that a major re-write is in order. It's kind of sad I think because I have a big text file just chalk full of story ideas to write about. I think I'm just being lazy about it. I haven't even done much reading lately. If enough people request it, maybe I Andy will let me post the whole background story to El-Sh'nar in the Cool Stuff section sometime.

    re: D&D Characters

    A few amusing ideas I've seen/had:

Flint Westwood, Dwarven Ranger: Mostly clean-shaven(permanent 5 o'clock shadow), wide-brim hat, cloak, carries a heavy crossbow on his back and a pair of pistol crossbows on his hips. Cursed by a Wizard to have a Ghost Sound spell pop up at inopportune moments.

Fluke Cloudwalker, Human Psychic Warrior/Soulknife: A strange young man, charming enough but mad as a hatter. Goes on about something called "The Force" and some group of Knights called "Jedi". Still, he can make this glowing sword-thing pop up at will and cut people into bits, best not to provoke him.

A Sorceror whose spells are centered around a "Superhero" theme, i.e. Shield("Force Field!"), Fly, Mordenkainen's Magnificent Mansion("Fortress of Solitude"), etc.

    re: D&D Characters

See, it's that kinda shit that just pisses me off. I know you deserve the freedom to [EDIT]:choose (shoose? what the hell is shoose? I really can't type, you know) what you like, but for god's sake! what ECL is your DM gonna use for that monstrosity? Obviously it's gonna hafta be modified from the DMG's recommended ECLs just cause it doesn't use a core race as a base.

My problem is, and it may sound a bit munchkinish, with all of those wasted ECLs you could have taken mad levels in Sorcerer or Wizard or Cleric or Psion, and been able to do all of that stuff yourself PLUS bestow a lot of the abilities upon your friends (Where it REALLY counts). How do you explain that hunk of mutations in game, too? Where in the Hells (there's the answer right there) do all of those critters get together and have a kid like that? I won't even touch that topic. Just eww...

(You can't have some of those templates [like a Vampire] with Blink Dog anyways. As a matter of fact, depending on which order the creature contracted those templates, you couldn't have Were-Bear and Vampire together ever, because of the type changes. *Shrug* well that is just conjecture, and I shall complete my ranting... now)

Which is why I think it's probably just a joke. If it's not meant to be, it still is and IMO no self-respecting DM would ever let such a thing exist in their game.
