Nicholas Chi of House Decados (Valushnya lineage)

Home World: Severus - Central Leshiy region

Background: Only son of mid level nobles I grew up learning the "mystical" arts and honing my psychic abilities. Decided to try to join the Screaming Dervishes uponst completing his vision quest. Has not yet made it in.

Heroic event While doing a vision quest on Severus in the jungles he came across a ruined temple. My character felt that he was called into the court yard where there was a large, shattered stone. Something under the rock was calling him. Unable to move the stone, he tried his telekinesis and found it "super charged"  momentarily. Underneath the rock was a laser sword that still functioned. Uponst showing it to his parents, they proclaimed that he should learn to master the weapon.

Re: LFG - Fading Suns PBF - "Solar System" game system

Church is okay if it doesn't require unquestioning obedience.  I'd like brawling for my special (or martial arts if it's separate), plus mindful technals, archery, and...what's theurgy?

Shanti's brown eyes are not the warm sort, nor would they pass for the cold eyes of a killer, though she has killed.  Rather, they are dark and distant as the backdrop of a star - notable only by contrast.  Her superiors have debated among themselves over whether she cares too little or too much.

She would tell you the question has no meaning, because caring is only a softer word for bondage.  Only by freeing herself from attachment can she give freely of herself, for how can one share what one does not truly own?

Heroic Event:  When Shanti was only months from legal age, she and her family were attacked and held by evil men.  They brutalized one of her sisters while Shanti huddled at their feet begging for mercy, beat her father while she crouched in a corner shielding her younger brother's eyes from the sight.  Then, when they dragged her mother away into the back room, Shanti realized that, in the scheme of life, her family's anguish mattered little.  They were small people at the fringes of a greater plot, and what happened to them would hardly impact the universe.

But what happened to those evil men...that was another matter entirely.  Her family, if they survived, would go on with their small life, touching only the few people close to them.  Those men -- they might touch thousands of lives with their deeds.  The only way for her to make a difference was to affect things larger than herself.  So she stood and faced them, with no thought for her family's safety.  She found the strength within her to kill the man who had been left to guard her and her brother.  Killed him while her siblings sobbed quietly in the corner, watching their own sister turn into the kind of monster they had been taught to shun all their lives.

Then she called out to the men in the room, "My mother is an old woman who has had many children.  You do not want her.  My flesh is firm and untouched - it is me you want.  Send her out and I will come willingly."  Like a whore, she used the distraction of her body to get the men's guard down, before she killed them, too.

Her actions saved her family, and her family was the cost of her actions.  Her honor, her marriagebility, her very soul had been mortgaged for their lives.

Re: LFG - Fading Suns PBF - "Solar System" game system

Theurgy is the knowledge of the arcane and is the ability used to peform "clerical magic".  These rituals are taken as Secrets.  Blessing, Lay on Hands, Curse, Tongues, Remove Evil, Calm, Knowing Heart, and Sanctuary are some possible rituals.

Also, Merciful Technals is the knowledge of advanced medicine (as seen through a religious lens, of course).  You've got 3 "Advances" that can be spent on Rituals if you want.  Or they can be spent on more "skills".  The cost is the new level, so 0 to 1 costs 1, 1 to 2 costs 2, 2 to 3 costs 3, etc.

Re: LFG - Fading Suns PBF - "Solar System" game system

I am way out of my element here, still having trouble wrapping my head around big numbers are good sometimes and sometimes little numbers are good.  I am sending for the core books so I can get a bit more back ground.  I still don't have a clue on how to modify or tune up my character.  Next time you do a Fading sun I'll be a little better prepared.  I found some campaign threads on the game and I didn't have a clue as to what they were talking about.  Hard to get the flavor of this by post.  Sorry but I have to bow out and bowing I humbly back away and fade into the corner where I'll watch like a little mouse.

) Right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before.

That's OK, OldGrump.  We aren't using that system anyway, but I can see how you might feel in over your head.  I'm feeling a bit daunted myself.  Hopefully it will all work smoothly once it gets going.  Maybe you can jump back in later if you feel more comfortable. :)

Re: LFG - Fading Suns PBF - "Solar System" game system

    Some things to know:

An ability check - Roll three Fudge dice and add your Ability.  Anything better than zero is a success, though you can still be "out-succeeded" by an opponent.

    Melee (+1): ++- +1 = 2 (Success!)

You can spend 1 (and only 1) matching pool point for a bonus die.  Roll the bonus die, and keep the highest 3 dice.

    Diplomacy (+1) ---0 + 1 = 1 (Success!)

Penalty dice work the same way, but you drop the highest die instead.

    Bargain (+3) -0-- +3 = 0 (FAIL!)

Re: LFG - Fading Suns PBF - "Solar System" game system

How do you get XP?  Mostly through your Keys.

Do what the Key says, and get the XP for it.  It's that simple.  I'm not keeping track of it though.  If you think you've earned XP, say something.
Note: If you do the do the 10XP thing, and claim the XP (you don't have to claim it), you lose the Key and can never take that one again.

    5 XP = 1 Advance.

    Advancement costs:

New Key (Max 5 Keys at a time): 1
New Secret (If somebody shows you how): 1
An Ability you have access to from +0 to +1: 1
    An Ability from +1 to +2: 2
    An Ability from +2 to +3: 3
    An Ability from +3 to +4: 4
    Increase a Pool size: 1
For every full 10 Pool Points: (+1)

You can use Advances at any time.  Before a roll, after a roll, even in the middle of a conflict.
