OOCEverybody gets 2 XP for this encounter.

Rich didn't call it, but Alun gets 1 XP for meeting this new thing and 2 XP for the clue.

Re: [Solar System] Fading Suns - Incubation

OOC:  It seems I've made a combat character who gains xp mainly by talking.  Can I buy a key "Bodyguard: Nicholas" which rewards me for looking after his safety, defending him at risk to myself, etc.?  Thank'e much.

"Likely the machine is broken," Shanti observes, based on the general state of disrepair elsewhere in what they can see of the ship.  "I do not expect any personnel will appear to escort us.  Perhaps we should, instead, proceed to a more enlightening area."  She stands close to Nicholas, looking warily around for signs that the computer might send hostile non-sentients to detain them.   At the same time, she takes note of all possible exits to the room and any other notable features or variations in the slime.

Re: [Solar System] Fading Suns - Incubation

"As you wish Shanti, our safety is in your hands", Alun scrapes away a bit more of the slime before flicking it off of his blade with a look of disgust, "Perhaps we'll find a functioning datapanel Nicholas can extract something useful from deeper within"

Alun looks to see if the way forward is unlocked, if there seems to be any sort of readily apparent defensive mechanism to "force" visitors to remain here, and if not, strides forward one of the soldiers in tow.

Re: [Solar System] Fading Suns - Incubation

There are three doors leading away from the room.  One is encrusted in thick, ropey strands of dried slime-resin.  The other is closed, and the one to the front is ajar.  All three are heavy bulkheads meant to keep the atmosphere in and space out.  Alun forces his way past the partially open door, which moves reluctantly with a groan.

"I wouldn't go... KKRZT!... at way, if I were you, citizen" the voice in the speakers says conversationally.  "The sleeper has woken.  That way lies madness and death.  Your party is not authorized to KKKRRZT!... this area.  Thank you."

Somewhere within the bowels of the great ship, there is a distant "clang", followed by a brief, staccato "puh puh puh puh puh", and then silence again.

Re: [Solar System] Fading Suns - Incubation

OOC - my character would have tried to find schematics of how these old ships were laid out. Could he have found one before boarding?

IC - Moves in and looks around carefully.

Re: [Solar System] Fading Suns - Incubation

OOC to TzimisceTzimisce, sure!  Unfortunately, that sort of information is about impossible to find after the data purges during the fall of the 2nd Republic, so there'll be a penalty die.  Make a Library (R) roll at a one die penalty, that is, roll 4dF and keep the 3 lowest.  Or you can spend a point of Reason and just roll 3 dice, period.

If you succeed (ie, don't get '0'), you have the option to spend a point of Reason and turn the result into bonus dice that you can save for later and use when schematics might matter.

Re: [Solar System] Fading Suns - Incubation

OOC - how big is this ship? Does it have power? Can we read the signs on the walls?

IC - "We don't know what's on this ship - could be monsters, diseases or poisons. Remember to watch the walls, ceiling and small openings like vents. Some hostiles are smaller than human sized. Are we here just to retrieve the artefact? Or are we also going to investigate? If we're here just to get the item, I'm guessing it will be somewhere in the cargo hold. If we're here to study everything, we should probably try to find the bridge first. I'm assuming that the cargo hold will be somewhere in the belly and the bridge would be somewhere towards the front. I recommend that we all stay together at least until we do a thorough sweep of area."

Re: [Solar System] Fading Suns - Incubation

OOCThe ship is a cruise ship, like you'd take on vacation.  It's essentially a hotel with an engine, only bigger.  As such, it's huge.  The ship seems to have power based on the lights.  You haven't seen any signs on the walls as of yet, but 2nd Republic writings can typically be puzzled out without too much trouble.

"The belly of the beast", the voice from the ship says unevenly.  "The claws dig deep and... KKKRZT... belly vomits forth death.  Why are you here, citizens?  Why do you bugs bring more of the sickness to this ship?  You are not authorized to proceed.  Please... KKRZT... decontamination sequence.  Thank you."

Re: [Solar System] Fading Suns - Incubation

"Artifact? What artifact? Our deal is to strip this hunk of junk of everything its worth.", Alin responds testily, not having shared or acknowledged any dreams of the white glowing sphere, "I say we go to the bridge, maybe you can disable the ", he points upwards vaguely towards where the voice is coming from, " annoying voice.  Shah! Calling us bugs"

Alin starts trying to lead  the group towards where the bridge normally is in these sorts of ships.

Re: [Solar System] Fading Suns - Incubation

The voice offers no more protest as Alun moves down the hallway.  On some level, everyone can feel a sense of activity deeper within the vessel, though there is no discernable evidence.  Motes of dust float in the atmosphere of the ship, dancing in the blue lights of the hall, and occasionally the structure of the ship will ping or groan softly, but that is all.

OOCIs everyone heading for the bridge?

Re: [Solar System] Fading Suns - Incubation

OOC - yes I'm headed for the bridge. Interesting that the place still has life support. Any signs of life at all? Rats, roaches, slime growths on the walls? What is the temperature in here?

Re: [Solar System] Fading Suns - Incubation

OOCWell, other than the dried slime and resin almost everywhere, no, no immediate life-signs.  Unfortunately, you don't have any tools that would give you the temperature.  You could try opening your suit. Smile

Some time later, the party moves carefully through another corridor, marines in front and back, weapons at the ready.  Over the lead marine's head, there's a rattling, scuttling sound from within the wall.  Then another.  And another.  Soon, it's like rain falling on a roof.  Everyone back up to a safe distance and watches, but the sound seems to die down.

Suddenly, "something" bursts forth from vents in the ceiling and floors.  Scuttling, dog-sized horrors with over-sized insect-eyes and gnashing mandibles scrabble across the floor and walls on four spiky legs, hissing and spitting!  But worst of all, beneath their hideous features are hints of the humans that they once were.  This ship is worse than haunted, it's infested by body-snatching, shape-shifting, baby-eating Symbiots!

    OOCWhat now?

Re: [Solar System] Fading Suns - Incubation

"Slay them all!" Alun roars as he readies his weapon for the first one to get near him.

Whirling like a dervish Alun slashes several times at the sickening creatures, then proceeds to run and jump onto the side of the corridor where his momentum seemingly allows him to crouch on the corridor before leaping for a surprise slash at another of the creatures, ending up on the other side of one of the creatures hopefully about to be flanked by a marine.
