A shadow moves on a nearby rooftop, then a rough voice wispers just above the wind, "Oi boy, if you can hear me, try to give me a sign, im going to toss you a rope, tie it to something so you can get across"

    Re: Inconvenient Death

The people in the store usher in Mary, who breaks down, sobbing, into their arms.  She is followed shortly by Abe and Hal, who slam the gate shut in time for it to be mobbed by maddened undead!

OOC to ShadowzShadowz, you're welcome to participate, but first you'll need to make a character per the rules HERE.

    Abe

Still clutching to the pushbroom I lean against the counter and slide down to a sitting position on the floor.

    "Ta-ta-tac...Mexican then, I'm tired of Twi-twi-twi....Hostess cupcakes."

I stare at the door, almost curious now instead of afraid after having fought them and survived.  I also think I used up this years quota of brave and stupid.

    Re: Inconvenient Death

I'm going to stand up and take stock of my situation: Where am I? Is there anyway I can make my way back to the store?

    Re: Inconvenient Death

OOC to NovaYou're on the roof of a building across the street.  If you jump down onto a dumpster in the side alley and skirt around and across the street, you can probably make it to the back door of the Quick-Stop.

Hal closes the gate and pushes against it to keep it braced. Once he's sure the gate will hold, he steps back and surveys the group.
    "Wait, where's the other guy?"

Hmm, I dislike that plan and lable it plan B. I look for plan B. Can I find anything on top of the roof that I could use to cross the road at a safe hight? Large boards, wires, pipes?

    Re: Inconvenient Death

Some of the people in the store move as close as they dare toward the front window, peering futiley into the cold and dark for some sign of Alex.  Several minutes pass, and there's talk of rescue and danger, reasoned pleas and angry arguments.  All of this is suddenly interrupted by a crash from the back of the store.  The clerk levels his gun as a shadow emerges, lurching and grunting from behind a shelf of snacks.

The clerk cocks the hammer of his shotgun...

Somebody points a flashlight at the figure, revealing... Alex, looking exhausted, and clutching his aching back.

"What happened?  Are you alright?  How did you get back?", the crowd asks, the questions piling on top of one another.

Two men ease Alex to the ground and somebody tucks bags of cotton candy under his head and the small of his back.

"What happened?", the father of the little girl asks.

OOC to NovaSo, what did happen?

    Abe

Kneeling at the head of Alex I feel his forehead for fever, put my finger tips on his carotid artery to feel for his pulse and check his pupils.  I'm not sure why I am doing this because I don't know what I'm looking for but its something to do.

    Re: Inconvenient Death

Alex finds a large wooden board and lays it across the narrow street. He slowly inches across is,  moaning zombies below. He makes it across the street, just a few hoses down The first two roofs he jumps just fine, however he misjudges teh last jump and falls, just managing to catch the edge of the roof. Not being able to pull himself up due to his back he trusts his luck and lets go of the edge, landing in a pile of refuse. Hearing moans coming from the back he finds a door at the back of the store and using a skill some construction worker freinds taght him he jimis the poor lock and slimps inside.

Alex looks up at the others.  "I found a large wooden board and laid it across the narrow street", he says.  "I slowly inched across it,  moaning zombies below. I made it across the street, just a few houses down. The first two roofs I jumped just fine, however I misjudged the last jump and fell, just managing to catch the edge of the roof. As Alex walks over to Mary I look him over carefully for scratches or any open wounds that might indicate a possible infection

OOCDid I feel a fever or feel an irregular pulse that might indicate a possible problem besides a rapid pulse caused by pain when I was checking him

    Re: Inconvenient Death

Hal and Alex see to Mary's well-being, Alex embracing her comfortingly.  Mary balks at first, until she realizes just who he is.

"ALEX!" she cries.  "Oh my god, you're alive!"

She hugs him tightly to her, a wave of sobbing consuming her once again.  "I thought that everybody that I knew was dead!  It's so good to see you again!  Are you on your way to the pick-up point, too?  The one the military has set up at Romero High School?  You have heard, haven't you?  It's across town, but with... Oh god, the truck!  It's ruined, isn't it?"

Meanwhile, Abe hovers over the group, peering suspiciously at Alex.  He's suffered numerous bruises and scratches, but none are obviously infected with whatever makes people into zombies.  Of course, it may just be too early to tell...

"I think the truck is dead. But don't worry about that right now. We're safe here for now."
Hal stands and walks to the window, looking for any cars in the lot he may have forgotten about.
