Re: 3:16 - Planet Designation "Bosch"

Monsignor glared at the trooper, not really caring to bother with this crap at the moment. But, there's a mission to be dealt with first.

"Corporal Monsignor here." There was something of an annoyed tone to his voice.

'I wonder if any of the troopers snuck some brews with them on this Godforsaken dirthole,' he thought idly.

    OOCSorry about the delay.

"Congratulations, Sergeant Monsignor", Lieutenant Coghill's voice says without mirth or sympathy, "it looks like you've been promoted.  See if you can do a better job than your predecessor.    Now, what's you status?  What's going on down there?  What happened?  Sensors show you've landed way off target."

I'm reestablishing a perimiter and then distributing the better weapons of the fallen to those with worse weapons. Does anyone with actual rank question what I"m doing?

OOC to NovaThe only person in the area with a rank higher than "Trooper" is Sergeant Monsignor.

Re: 3:16 - Planet Designation "Bosch"

OOCHere's a little note:  Successfully using your equipment can set you up with a +1 bonus to FA or NFA on a later related roll.  So, for instance, we'll pretend that you described consulting your field guide for the procedures of setting up a perimeter.

    NFA: 7 (Fail)

While Sgt. Monsignor is busy talking to the LT, Trooper Jet goes about tyring to set up a perimeter, but nobody seems to listen to him.

"Relax, man", Trooper Adams says.  His helmet is open, and he has a cancer stick dangling from his lip as he sits on a nearby rock.  "We've got these bugs.  They're totally outclassed.  Besides, who do you think you are?  If we need to "set up a perimeter", Sarge'd say something."  He takes a long drag on his cancer stick and blows a little ring of smoke at Trooper Jet.

Jet reaches over and picks up the trooper by the front of his uniform and raise him up to eye level (leaving his legs dangalish a good foot or so off the ground) "You WILL set up a F***ing perimiter you ****ing **** or I will open your skull just to see what **** is in it instead of brains!"

Trooper Adams kicks free and shoves Trooper Jet away.  "Yeah? I'd like to see you try, ***hole!", Adams shouts around his cancer stick.  "I will put you in the f***ing ground!"

Several other Troopers circle the pair, eager to watch the fight.

Jet is going to open with a meaty fist to the stomach, trying to take the fight out of him quickly. Also do I have a sidearm or just me rifle?

OOCOnly officers are issued sidearms.  I wonder if Golgotha is coming back?

Trooper Jet throws a punch at Trooper Adams' midsection, connecting solidly, but Adams retaliates by tackling Jet to the ground and jabbing at his ribs.

OOCYou can slap at each other all day without resolution.  Only a killing blow is going to resolve this.  Are you willing to risk killing this guy (and similarly, are you willing to risk your own life?)

Re: 3:16 - Planet Designation "Bosch"

    OOCRolling for Dominance:

    Jet (NFA 4): 5
    Adams (NFA 7): 9
Both fail, so range defaults to Far, but since that doesn't make sense here, we'll set it to Close.

Adams is attacking Jet in hand-to-hand.

What is Jet doing?  Hitting him?  Backing off and drawing his rifle?  Something else?

You know what, nevermind.  Adams sees that you're serious and backs off.

"*** this", Trooper Adams curses.  "I was kidding.  Jeez!  We're not morons Jet, and you're not our mother, so back off!"  Having made his attempt to save face, he leads the disappointed Troopers out to form a perimeter guard.

From behind Jet comes Monsignor's voice. "Is there a problem Trooper?", he asks.  "Looks like I'm Segeant now, so it's fallen on my shoulders to keep you grunts alive.  The LT says they can't land due to the interference like we recieved on the way down.  They're not sure what caused it, but sensors did pick up a power spike a few klicks from here.  We're to investigate and put a stop to whatever it is."

"You know these Troopers pretty well", he continues as he peers off into the fog, "What course of action do you suggest?"

OOCI don't think Golgotha's coming back.  We can wrap up this mission with the next encounter if you like.

Re: 3:16 - Planet Designation "Bosch"

The remaining troopers gather up their gear and begin moving slowly through the fog.  The sensor in their Mandelbrite armor should be able to detect incoming bugs, but the oppressive closeness of the fog makes everyone tense.  The terrain becomes rockier after a while, and begins to slowly rise.  Eventually the troopers find themselves looking over a slight ridge down into a depression.  In the center, large and visible even through the fog is what looks like a large, glowing pink crystal monolith, pulsing with alien energy.  This must be the source of the disturbance.  At the base of the monolith, barely visible at this distance through the fog, the "cat-things" stand in a ring, holding paws like some sort of perverse religious ceremony.  The thrumming of their voices echos in time with the pulsing of the crystal and the pounding at the back of the troopers' skulls.

    OOC to NovaWhat now, Nova?

Re: 3:16 - Planet Designation "Bosch"

    GM OVERRIDE!

Sgt Monsignor orders the troops to spread out and surround the enemy.  Jet quickly flips through his field manual for the proper ambush procedure, but there's no time.  The troopers move out.

    Jet (NFA 4): 5 (FAIL)

(2 Threat Tokens put in play)

    DOMINANCE -
    Aliens (AA 7): 9 (FAIL)
    Jet (NFA 4): 4 (AMBUSH!)

(Jet sets range to NEAR. Ambush removes 1 Threat Token.)

The troopers come pouring out of the trees like a wave of death.  Jet cuts down 6 bugs before they even know what hit them.

Aliens charge! (NFA 7): 9 (FAIL!)
    Jet shoots! (FA 6): 4 (5 KILLS)

The aliens charge up the hill through the mist, but they're no match for the trooper's superior firepower and technology.  Jet takes careful aim at one after another as they move up the hill toward him, until finally his rifle rings out one last time and all is still.  At the Sergeant's command, the men approach the monolith and begin to unload all of thier firepower upon it.  It finally exlpodes in to deadly, pink fragments that glance off of the remaining trooper's Mandelbrite armor.

A short time later, they can hear the distinctive scream of landing ships approaching the landing zone.

The remainder of the mission is uneventful.  The planet finally pacified, Trooper jet gets a package in the intra-ship mail.

"Trooper Jet_____ , for your distinction in battle on planet Bosch           and the 12       kills you aquired there, you have been awarded:

    Campaign Medal (enclosed)

    Crimson Sword (enclosed)

    Wear them with pride, trooper."

(Also, Jet gains a Level, improving NFA to 5 and gaining a Strength Flashback)
(Also, Jet's Slug Rifle advances to 1/1d10/1d6)
(Jet tries to get a Chain-Sword (NFA 5): 7 (FAIL))

Mission Over.  Thank you for playing. :)
