Lucan, you're up.  Don't forget, I had Grieg use lay on hands on you so you get to spend a healing surge.

Kdaga, I hope you're still planning to be in the game!

Re: [D&D 4e] Scales of War - Part 1 RivenRoar

Feeling fresh and renewed, Lucan utters a sound like a bark and strikes at the flanked hobgoblin (circling strike), after which (if it hit), Varis moves down left around the other hobgoblin, then Lucan follows, making this new hobgoblin his quarry.

OOC: I also spent my healing surge, how many hit points do I have now?

    OOC

Lucan had taken 10 damage, reducing him to 14, the healing surge gave him back 6 putting him at 20.  And actually looking closer it seems Grieg spent the healing surge so you didn't have to, so you still have all of your healing surge.

    Taaj also has 5 damage.

Mariachi(Taaj) feel free to go, I'll post the next update tonight.

Re: [D&D 4e] Scales of War - Part 1 RivenRoar

Grieg strides towards Jamroar's brutish assailant, "Not this day, By Moraddin's Hammer!", the hobgoblin's eyes glow with Grieg's divine challenge and his hammer flashes with a surge of light, but the creature pulls out of the way at the last moment.

The hobgoblin sneers "This old man is mine!" as he swings his blade at Jamroar, the smile leaves his face as his skin begins to char and burn, Grieg's divine challenge incinerates the hobgoblin and it crumbles to the floor.

Meanwhile, the goblin closest to Taaj screams out in a high pitched voice "Dieeee!!!!!!" as it pulls a short sword and charges Taaj, giving him a small gash.

The pale elven patron with the white hair jumps onto the table and flicks his wrist out at the goblin, but misses the goblin and shifting away [Goblin Tactics], where he pulls out his short sword and slices Lucan, getting a good shot at his back.

The hobgoblin in the doorway, sensing his doom from the wolf and elf, yells out "For the Hand!" and stabs at Lucan

Berend, the dwarf with the heavy hammer chuckles "Looks like the little elfy whelfy needs some help, here you go!" he heaves his hammer into the goblin, caushing a shrill shriek as the hammer hits the goblin's back.

The other dwarves move towards the bar fire , which has begun to spread, having grabbed bucks of sand kept near the fireplace.  Thomas the bartender and Lilla likewise start moving towards the bar, Thomas yelling out "Save ma bar!"

At the barkeep's plaintive cry and the goblin's incessant attacks, Taaj throws up his Armour of Agathys and attemps to hop the bar and smother those licking flames with his new demonic icey shell.

Re: [D&D 4e] Scales of War - Part 1 RivenRoar

The flames lick at Taaj's icy armor but cease advancing as he radiates cold.   The goblin who was attacking Taaj, turns towards the dwarf with twin hatchets that goes by the name Dardrak.  The goblin lunges under the spinning axes and causes a minor scrape.

Dardrak's younger brother, the dwarf using the big battle axe in two hands, charges up "Brother!" and slices the goblin's head clean off.

The lone remaining hobgoblin attacks Lucan, to no effect, while berend swings at the other goblin, also to no effect.

The goblin attacks Lucan, pinning him with his blade and causing Lucan to drop to the ground, unconscious.

Jamroar launches an icy blast that snuffs out the remaining flames.

I'll pull an eldritch blast on that guy next to Varis or the other one if the first is dead by then, firing from behind the charred bar.

Do i have to make a grapple check or something?

Re: [D&D 4e] Scales of War - Part 1 RivenRoar

    OOC

If you want to grab someone, you make a strength attack vs their reflex defense as a standard action.  If you hit, the opponent is immobilized until they escape or you let go.  To escape a grab they have to make a Acrobatics check vs reflex or athletics vs fortitude as a move action.

Grieg can probably do it on his turn, I know Zenith is having computer problems, if he doesn't post by tonight I'll have Varis attack to defend his master then Grieg lay on hands to get Lucan back up and healthy and then grab the hobgoblin.  With knowing how it'll probably play out, Jamroar do you want to attack the goblin on your turn?

Re: [D&D 4e] Scales of War - Part 1 RivenRoar

OOCThanks, I'm here though!  I managed to get my brother to let me use his computer for now.  Hopefully I'll have my own soon.

The beast companion rules say that when Lucan is unconscious, Varis has to move adjacent to him before he can do anything else.  Is he allowed to shift, or does it have to be a move, granting the hobgoblin an opportunity attack?

Varis shifts over to be next to his unconscious friend, Lucan, then unleashes his fury on the hobgoblin who attacked him.  16 vs. AC, 3 damage.  Varis keeps attacking the goblin until it dies.  Lucan, meanwhile, chokes up blood from the blow he received.  If he could see himself now, he'd say, "It figures I would be killed in the first battle of my adventure.  Ah well, all the more dramatic a fight, I suppose."

Jamroar tries to grab for the nearest non-dead goblin.

    12
If Jamroar grabs him he pins the goblins arms with his quarterstaff.
Also the mage hand moves next to the goblin. (i can do that right? I think thats 1 standard and 2 moves)

Re: [D&D 4e] Scales of War - Part 1 RivenRoar

Grieg trots around the long way out of the reach of the last goblin, nudges Lucan with his knuckles, "Moraddin's blessing on you young one", then crushes the skull of the last hobgoblin.

Berend swings his hammer at the goblin, who skitters out of the way, "No no no no no" the goblin cries, just before Jamroar, apparently a tougher old man than he seems, grabs the goblin, pinning him down with his staff.

The pale elf gestures for some rope, and quickly knots up the goblin with the expertise of a sailor, the goblin is tightly bound.  The dwarves, the remaining bar patrons, and of course the staff, grimly set to the task of cleaning the room.  As Thomas is pulling out some casks from the back he mutters, "Not as much damage nor as many corpses as when those berzerkers came through town a few months back"

Things are mostly quieting, the goblin is gibbering in terror, struggling at his ropes but its obvious he has no chance of escaping the elf's expert knots, when suddenly 4 armed members of the guard rush into the room, 2 of them carrying buckets of water.  All of the guards are covered with blood, and one walks with an obvious limp.

"By Bahamat's Blade!  What happened here?" one particularly burly guard says, "We've been fighting goblins and hobgoblins throughout the marketplace, heard and smelled the fire, but it looks like you've already mopped up the place!   Whos responsible for this?" the outspoken guard says to the room, looking towards Thomaas, who shrugs and nods towards your group.

    the Antler and Thistle: Bristol
The room is oddly quiet with everyone muted as they help clean up.  The stink of charred wood, food, and alcohol fills the air.  The whimpering of a bound goblin can be heard occasionally

Re: [D&D 4e] Scales of War - Part 1 RivenRoar

As the guard turns to us Taaj steps forward, his armour of Agathys falling away and disappearing into the ether (got to make a good impression ;D).
"Oh, but no. As much as we would like to claim all the credit, the defense of this bar was a joint effort. Our good dwarven friends here and that elf," he looks around for the elf, not sure if he/she is still about, "they were most generous in their aid also."
