    Re: Inconvenient Death

    Abe

Arm weary I am holding on to the breaker bar with both hands and I slowly back away from the door and from my companions hoping to draw the zombies away from them so they can get the truck going or whatever they are doing now since they are on the other side of the truck from me.  My only desire is to give them time to get the truck started and make their escape or make a weapon we can stop these poor souls with.  All I can do is defend now, attack is beyond me.

    Re: Inconvenient Death

Alex scrounges for supplies and soon finds a gas can and rags, which he uses to set the zombies at the door ablaze!  Abe is given a chance to rest, but the fire won't hold them for long, and the corner of the room is now engulfed in fire and oily black smoke!

OOCHow's it going guys?  Do you have any OOC questions or anything?  Are things working ok for you?

    Re: Inconvenient Death

OOCEverything is peachy keen here, we have the situation well in hand. I was just thinking about taking out a bag of marshmallows and a box of hershey bars to make some s'mores but I didn't get any graham crackers. Well maybe tomorrow. (Yer a mean man Mr. Magalillicutty)
I take advantage of the brief break to put the box of goodies in the left side compartment and I search all the compartments till I can find an ax.  Then I fumble at the latches of the hood to see if I can open it up.  Wouldn't know what to look for but the mechanic would and I'm trying to help out.

Sorry for missing a few updates. I quickly pop the hood of the engine and see if its something stupid like a dead battery or dirty sparkplug until our real mechanic takes a look at it.

OOCSorry for missing a few updates. Been DMing a Call of Cthulhu game till 2am the past couple of days and forgot to update.

    Re: Inconvenient Death

Abe opens the engine access on the fire engine before running to the back and rummaging around until he comes up with an axe.  Meanwhile, Alex peers into the depths of the engine's machinery to see if he can divine a problem.  Whatever it is, it isn't obvious.  One of the men with them urges Alex aside and examines the engine.

"I can fix this", he says confidently.  "You, over there, roll that tool box over here.  You, bring me that hose.  And somebody keep those zombies out, cause this is gonna take some time."

He starts working and everyone is intent on their tasks until one guy, the heavyset one, Larry, screams hoarsely!

"NOOOO!  YOU'RE ALL FOOLS!  THERE'S NO HOPE!  THERE'S NO WAY WE'RE GOING TO GET OUT OF HERE!  CAN'T YOU HEAR IT?  IT'S IN THE WALLS!  WE'VE GOT TO GET OUT!"

With that, he lurches for the bay door at the front of the garage and yanks up on the latch!  The heavy garage door rises by over a foot before anyone can react.  Shuffling zombie feet can be see outside, though none seem to have realized the opening... yet.  Larry moves his grip on the garage door and prepares to lift it up even further!

(And now that he mentions it, it does seem like the walls of the building are shaking a little, or is that just the rattling of the garage door?)

    Re: Inconvenient Death

    Abe

Feeling sick to my stomach I rush the door and bring the axe down hard on the poor guy trying to open the door.  Then I jump up and grab the ridges on the door, my toes digging onto the bottom ridge of the door trying to keep all my weight on the door till somebody can help me secure it again.  The soot and heat makes it warm and slippery but old skills learned rock climbing give me a slight edge and panic helps me ignore the stench of the zombies that had been burnt by the make shift fire molotov cocktail.  Surprisingly I think back to mum and pape back at the carnival and wonder how they are doing.  I hadn't thought of my parents in 20 years.

    Re: Inconvenient Death

I'm going to grab and axe and help hold off the hoards, chopping off any feet that get under the door as they try and close it.

    Re: Inconvenient Death

OOCOk, we'll make this a quick scene.  Your goal seems to be to keep the zombies out.  The zombies' goal is to eat your brains.  We'll call this "Hard" (2 Odds) + 1 for the poorly secured hole in the other door and + 1 for poor Larry working against you, for a total Difficulty of 4.  This is a physical scene, so you two have a whopping 2 dice between you.  Let's see... Alex gets +1 for the axe, Abe gets +3 for totally backstabbing poor Larry.  That's 6 dice total.

Anybody want to burn a trait that they haven't already burned in order to get an extra die?

(Also, OldGrump, I'm giving you a point of FANMAIL® for what I thought was some nice RPing in your last post.  It doesn't do anything for you, but I felt you should have it. Smile)

    Re: Inconvenient Death

OOCThanky kindly for the nice words. I wouldn't know what trait to burn, as an archaeologist who spends his days in the field or in the bone sorting room I can tell the difference between an Anasazi male and a Mogollon female skull and the difference in wounds made by a bone dagger and a ceramic dagger but I'm not sure how that would translate to a point bonus. The only fighting skill I have is knife throwing but I have no knives and am pretty sure it wouldn't do me anygood anyway. Any suggestions?  Sounds like we might need a little help if our mechanical men don't get that truck running.

    Re: Inconvenient Death

OOCPoop.  Nah, I've got nothing.  I thought there might have been some room for "Painfully Honest", but I couldn't quite work it.  I guess you'll just be playing the hand you're dealt.  Just waiting to see if Nova is burning anything at this point.

(Hmm.  I wonder if we've lost Armydeone for good.  Haven't heard from him in a while.)

    Re: Inconvenient Death

I'm going to try and organize what everyones doing, making sure people aren't bunched up so that there are gaps in our coverage of the door, trying to keep peoples spirits up as there muscles flag, and burn my 'Planing Team activities' attribute (let me now if at any time I can use my Electronics attribute to get the fire engine working.)

    Re: Inconvenient Death

OOCOk, that's a skill, not a trait, but it does give you an Auto Odd.  Here goes.

    Auto Odd: 4 - {1 Odds}

    Other Dice: 5, 4, 3, 4, 6 - {2 Odds}

Ai!  So close!  Ok, just missing the mark is a "No, but..." result.

Abe brings the axe down on Larry with a sickening "thuck", dropping the panicked man, before clamboring onto the door to try to bring it down!  But he's too late, and already several zombies scurry beneath the gate, despite the men hacking at them with all of their strength.  Still, only a few get in rather than the entire horde, and eventually the door is pulled closed.  Two men even manage to push a vending machine in front of the hole in the shop door, blocking further entry.

Larry moans in agony on the floor, mortally wounded and in pain, but still alive.

Around the room, the men still struggle with the remaining undead!

OOCSomebody also gets injured!  It's either a wound for one of you two, or the mechanic dies.  Who's going to volunteer?Ethan Angry

    Re: Inconvenient Death

OOCAlex has taken a serious bite wound to his side.  Nobody knows about it yet, though, and he can probably just blame it on his bad back.  He loses a die from all conflicts.

Looks like you'll have to finish off these zombies, though!  This will be "Hard", so Difficulty 2.  There's 1 die each for you, minus Alex's die, + 2 dice for the axes, for a total of 3 dice.

Is anybody burning a Trait for an extra die or using a skill for an Auto Odd?  (It's every man for himslef here, no Team Planning this time!)  This is, needless to say, a dangerous challenge.
