[D&D] Scales of War - Part 1 RivenRoar

Characters
Lucan, an elven ranger beastmaster played by Zenith
Taaj, a dragonboard warlock played by mariachidevil
Jamroar, a human wizard played by xeric369
Grieg, a dwarven paladin follower of Moradin played by kdaga |
You find yourselves in Brindal, a small town of mostly humans, half-elves, and dwarves. Specifically you find yourselves in the Antler and Thistle, a bustling little tavern filled with people drinking, chatting, and generally seeming to have a good time.
You've all found yourselves here, meeting for the first time, due to a combination of family recommendations and odd happenstance. Over the past few weeks, Brindal has had some problems with hobgoblin attacks, the most recent of which ended with the Hall of Valor being looted and several members of the village being kidnapped! This meeting has been arranged for you to introduce yourselves to each other and hopefully figure out how to rescue the villagers, and perhaps get a bit of treasure and fame at the same time.
In the back an obvious group of ruffians play at cards, with several unsavory types, mostly human but a few dwarves and half elves, make you watch your goods. Despite their looks, most of the ruffians are obviously not battle trained and even versus the lot of them any one of you feel confident you could take them.
The group next to you however, is a bit different. Four dwarves, bright red shocks of hair, cropped close to their heads, and looking as if they could be brothers save for the fact that one of them appears a good thirty years older than the other three. For the most part they're being raucus, having a good time, but they're also eying your table, and not in a friendly way.

Re: [D&D 4e] Scales of War - Part 1 RivenRoar
still can't get that OOC box to work. It appears, but there isn't any space inside it to type. Ditto the narration and sidebar doobits.
Anyway:
Taaj walks in. The first thing you notice about him is his skin, it is stark white, something you have most likely never seen on a dragonborn, his violet eyes stand out in contrast to the colour of his scales. He is of above average height but thin build (for a dragonborn at least). A rod or club hangs from a leather thong tied to his wrist, although it is far too ornate to be a weapon, Leather armour can be seen beneath the plain black cloak he wears.
As he introduces himself to whoever is there, lightning crackles between his lips

Jamroar starts talking to Taaj. While Jamroar introduces himself as 62 years old you can't shake the feeling that he looks like he's 30 minus the balding greying hair and the long also grey beard. You also see that he wears the robes of a follower of the elven god Deep Sashelas which is odd since he looks like a human. He is also slightly below average height and of a fairly normal weight. Also for the fact he introduces himself as old you can tell that teh staff he holds isn't used as a cane but rather for other things and he seems fairly spry for his age.

Re: [D&D 4e] Scales of War - Part 1 RivenRoar
Grieg wears ostentatious silver and purple armour that bears the Coat of Arms of his family. The Coat is a reverance to the God Moradin and the armour is an heirloom that his grandfather crafted. He wears his beard short and braidless, to show his shame. His warhammer is not as beautifully created as his armour, but appears to be more basic and with just the symbol of Moradin. It looks like it was mass made and indeed, it was presented to him by the school as a tool and symbol of his itnitiate level.
He sits at a table and listens in on the Dragonborn and human. He does it outright and with no intent on being secretive about it. He recognizes the two as the people he is seeking and acts amiable towards them without talking. A barmaid goes by and he gruffly, but politely asks for an ale of the highest quality. As she leaves, he gets up and walks over to the two and introduces himself as, Grieg; the Swift Avenger Removed.

Taaj greets the dwarf and draws out a chair for him. He glances at the position of the sun through the window and remarks that he was expecting to meet three people here, not two. If any one shows up now they will be late. Still, the mead isn't terrible and the company seems amiable, so he is willing to wait a little longer

| Characters |
Grieg , jamroar , Lucan , Taaj |
| NPCs |
Adrick , Berend , Dardrak , Tordrak | While you wait for the remaining elf, the nearby dwarves seem to be getting a little more raucous, or, knowing dwarves, the copious amounts of alcohol they're imbibing is being used as an excuse to act more outrageous. The elder dwarf raises a flagon and points towards your table as he speaks loudly to his fellows, "See these chaps boys? Would be heroes if I've ever seen one, too bad they don't know a lick about gobbos. Even our distant brother there has probably never seen combat, though they stand a bit better chance with him than without, its in his blood. Well, no need to waste time, lets drink to their worthy sacrifices.", raising his voice, he yells "Donna worry, we'll have vengeance for ye after yur gone! eh boys?" To which the other dwarves all laugh loudly and clap each other on their backs.

Re: [D&D 4e] Scales of War - Part 1 RivenRoar
Grieg looks at his patronizing kin and shakes his head disapprovingly. "Never have I seen in my years of duty and learning, a vagabond group of dwarves such as you" he calls out loudly. the heat ofthe insults and the lack of soul in them made even his own blood boil. "Tell me, do you still feel the fires of the forge of the great god within you? Or have you gone out of touch with what gave you purpose?" He looks at his two companions and takes a sip o his ale that seemingly magically showed up there. "I've come from far away and to see ,my own so misled, makes me sad. Be prepared for some kind of brawl, its in our nature to settle things such as this with fists." He turns back to eye the group of dwarves and waits for their, nigh coherent, responses.

Taaj shakes his head slightly and wonders if Grieg is trying to start a barfight. He eyes the dwarves at the other table, and wonders how many he could catch with his lightning. He mutters something rather nasty about drunk dwarves under his breath and takes another sip of mead.

Re: [D&D 4e] Scales of War - Part 1 RivenRoar
"He's more civilized than you are, you brute!" comes a shout from the entrance. An elf had been arguing with the bouncer, but now walks into the bar, followed by a big grey wolf. Nobody tries to stop them anymore, and the elf sits down at the table. The wolf sits calmly down next to him. The elf has pale skin, and contrastingly dark brown hair. Bright green eyes glow from under his bangs. "I take it you're the folks I'm looking for," he says. "I can tell, as you seem to be the only proficient ones in this room. I'm Lucan Softstep, and this is Varis. As you can see, he's a wolf. I suggest that you don't get him cross. I apologize for my late arrival; Varis had to take a long pause on the way, and then that brute refused to let him in. So rude...now, what was that uproar I heard a moment ago?"
Zenith Camelot "Okay, make a saving throw against the bad puns."

"Just Grieg trying to start a fight with those wonderful dwarves over there, they seem to think that whatever we're meeting for it'll end in our deaths and nice to meet you Lucan I'm Jamroar."

"Aye lads, I told you our brother dwarf over there would help them, they're more civilized! Maybe he'll talk the gobbos to death!", Tordrak yells back.
"I'm about ready to slit me own throat Tordrak", the dwarf called Dardrak laughs, using one of his twin hatches to mime slitting his throat. "Urk ha ha ha ha"

Re: [D&D 4e] Scales of War - Part 1 RivenRoar
Grieg shakes his head sadly. He gives an approving nod to the elf and sighs bitterly at his new adventuring party. "These dwarves are not worth much to be brawling and are a waste of time. Let's get on with business and leave the drudgery to the drudged." He finishes off his ale and smiles hearth and home to his group.

"Very well. We do, after all, have a job to do." says Taaj, straightening in his chair and turning to face his fellow adveturers seated around the table. "I trust you have all heard of the attack on the Hall of Valor the other day and the kidnappings. I think it might be advantageous if we were to go to the Hall later today, to see what we can see. Your thoughts, gentlemen and wolf?"
