    New 4e Game - Scales of War

    I'm starting a new pbf.

    Game: 4th edition

    Rules allowed/Suggestions

     Any Wizards of the Coast rules.  I have the Wizards of the Coast Character generator (which means a paid DDI account), I'm happy to help you make your character if you don't have the 4e rules, I'll give you recommendations for what you should take and overall I'd recommend worrying more about the motivations, personality traits, etc.  4th edition has a set of rules for choosing personality traits and motivations, I'm requiring these, as I'll be using these in the Campaign Posts (see below)

    I'm also not big on forcing groups to have the different roles, if the group doesn't want a cleric for example, I'm sure it'll be fine, one way or another.  I'm also not big on regular NPCs, if your party is short, its short, unless we only have 1 player or something.  That isn't to say NPCs won't join the party, but the party is the stars, not the NPCs, so they'll come in and out as the story demands

    Posting Rules

     In addition to regular postings back and forth, I'll be posting 5 times a week a Campaign Post.  In each campaign post I'll post the next step, NPC responses, monster combat actions, etc.  I'm not intending on waiting for players if they vanish for a few days, I'll just post your next likely action based on your character's past motivations and personality traits from your class.  I'll be posting these campaign posts about 9-10pm PST, so you'll have that night and all of the next day at minimum to respond to things. If this doesn't work I'll change things as needed, but my big focus is pushing the story forward and not letting someone who becomes internet inactive from slowing down the campaign, as it usually causes the campaign to fall apart.

    Its also entirely possible I'll end a combat early, narrating the results, if its not important to the story I don't want to spend 1 month per combat!

    Campaign Description

    I'm using the Scales of War Adventure path, because its a public module, I can't stop anyone from reading it, all I can hope is that you'll refrain to keep it more interesting for yourselves, and either way, I'll adjust things based on your actions so when I run modules they rarely stay as written anyways.

    The Scales of War is a long series of adventures, I expect many people might not last the entire way through the campaign, and its a big part of why I'm going to push the campaign without waiting for player responses.  As people drop out I'll allow new people to join.

    The first adventure takes place in Brindol, a good amount of time after the events of the Red Hand of Doom.  If you liked that campaign, hopefully you'll like this one, the massive campaign from 3.5 gives the 4e one some flavor and history, though you don't need to have played it to appreciate this one, you'll get an impression of the history either way.

    Post applications for the campaign here, we'll start next week sometime probably.

    Re: New 4e Game - Scales of War

    one more question before Grieg comes to life.

    How are you doing ability scores?

    Only reason I as ask because there are a couple ways to do them.

    Re: New 4e Game - Scales of War

    You can use Method 1 or 2.

    I'd also like everyone to answer the Personality Traits questions from page 32 of the PHB, if anyone needs me to list them or help with them,let me know and I'll post them.

    Re: New 4e Game - Scales of War

    I updated the 4e character sheet on dndorks.com, the import of the .ddi files from the Wizards Character Generator is much more efficient now, both for powers and the character info.  Also feel free to attach your ddi file to the forums so I can load your character up.

    Thanks everyone, I expect to start the game next week sometime, so if everyone can have their character roughly finished by Monday it'd be great.

    (not that you need the Wizards character creator, but if you have it, might as well use it, IMO its the best D&D character generator 'ever')

    Re: New 4e Game - Scales of War

    There are several things that help to define the personality of your character in 4e.  You can change them whenever you want, I'll assume you have a reason for it, no problem.  I'll base some NPC reactions off of your personality traits, and it can help to act as a compass.

    I'd like everyone to select one personality trait for each kind of situation.

    Social Interactions

    How do others perceive you in social interactions?  {Cheerful, Talkative, Reserved, Charming, Witty, Relaxed}

    How optimistic are you? {Enthusiastic, Hopeful, Fatalistic, Grim, Self-assured, Brooding}

    How trusting are you? {Gullible, Open-minded, Skeptical, Suspicious, Naive, Trusting}

    Decision Points

    How assertive are you at a decision point? {Humble, Adaptable, Commanding, Timid, Easygoing, Impatient}

    How conscientious are you about following rules? {Scrupulous, Pragmatic, Dutiful, Honest, Flexible, Wild}

    How empathic are you? {Kind, Stern, Thoughtful, Protective, Hard-hearted, Oblivious}

    Dire Straits

    How courageous are you in dire straits? {Brave, Competitve, Steady, Cautious, Reckless, Fierce}

    How do you feel when faced by setbacks? {Stoic, Driven, Happy-go-lucky, Vengeful, Bold, Impassioned}

    How are your nerves? {Calm, Skittish, Restless, Impulsive, Patient, Unshakable}

    Rituals

    Tenser's Floating Disk requires you to spend 10 gold worth of special components, takes 10 minutes to cast and has a duration of 24 hours.  You make an arcana check to determine how much the circular plane of force can carry.   The disk is 3' in diameter and 1" deep at its center.  It remains stationary untless you move more than 5 squares away from it, in which case it moves with your base speed once per round until it is within 5 squares of you.  You can also command the disk to move up to your speed as a move action.  If you are more than 5 squares from the disk for 2 rounds, the disk disappears, dropping whatever it was carrying.

    The weight limit is 250 pounds for 9 or less, 500 pounds for 10-24, 1000 pounds for 25-39, 2000 pounds for 40 or higher.

    Wizard's Curtain

    Component Cost is 30 gold, duration is 24 hours..  You draw a curtain or several curtains from nowhere to ensure visual privacy.  The curtain is nearly opaque and appears in any pattern or colors you desire.  The ritual obscures all sight lines into a single room (burst 4 area that means 8 squares by 8 squares or 40'x40') applying a -10 penalty to perception checks to see anything inside the area.

    My character is Lucan, the beastmaster elf.

    Hope that's good!  I'll put him in the Character Vault.

    Looks great, I'm polishing off the last bits of the Companion area of the character vault so you'll have somewhere to put Varis in, it should be up tomorrow.  I'll also put in more bio info tomorrow.
