Recruiting for Serenity RPG
I'll be starting a game of Serenity here, using the Serenity Adventures book that just won an Origins Award. If the group stays cohesive, I can run you through the longer adventure Out in the Black.
We can decide on who plays what in this thread, and when the party is shaped up I'll start a new thread for gameplay. I figure the party can either play characters from the TV show/movie, or create their own, but all must choose the same way. I can provide stat blocks for the TV characters for those who don't have the rulebook, and also help with character creation.
You can get in touch with me @dorfird on Twitter if you want questions answered faster. I plan to update daily, so I'll check this thread at least that often, God willing.

Re: Recruiting for Serenity RPG
I'd be interested in playing. I'm personally in favour of creating my own, but if the rest want to go with the crew of Serenity I'm cool with that.

Re: Recruiting for Serenity RPG
Simply put, I'm a Browncoat, and I think it'd be fun to play. I don't have the book on me right now, unfortunately, but I need only go as far as my older brother's house, borrow it, and I'm set. Now, if you think of running a campaign where the "heroes" are Alliance, then count me out.
I aim to misbehave.

Re: Recruiting for Serenity RPG
Mmmm, I'm thinking some sort of merchant, neutral in the war that was hit hard by trading with the enemy punishments and then driven under by a large corporation from the core systems. He packed up and bought/chipped in on/joined a ship and does what he can to survive. Learned a fair bit a gunplay to protect his goods out on the rim worlds, plenty of men that will try and take whats yours if you let 'em. Prehappes might know a few folkes from his time as a merchant, might know a few that need cargo moved. And a course, he knows how to drive a good bargin after all these years. (Is that possible to do? Skilled w/ small arms, some contacts and lots of barganing and lie detection, no so much on the social niceties or fancy knowledge?)

Phelan,
Browncoats are fine with me: anyone who has a chance to pull together and fly the black is welcome.
Nova: the character you describe should be doable. I'll get out my book later and look at specifics.

Re: Recruiting for Serenity RPG
I'd be interesting in playing, I would perfer to make my own browncoat / neutral.
Fairly new to the system and never played a PBP game.
I've just started a GMing a serenity adventure, played the first one and its turning out a bit dark so far.
My character I don't mind, i would rather play some one a bit rough, perhaps greedy / filcher. I take it back stories are ok.
PBP: Sebastion Wriggleworth-Smythe (Serenity) PBP: Sera (Shadowrun)

Re: Recruiting for Serenity RPG
I have just done the fox hunt, and my crew killed the fox.... murdered him cold blood and robbed him...... everyone enjoyed it including me. No fault of my Gming I must add! They just saw him money and though they could get away with it!
I have several ideas for characters.
My first attempt
"Bellerophon archery 3 champion years runng (this year -2 and two before) Sebastion Wriggleworth-Smythe. and a pretty dab hand at the old rapier too, old bean."
Male mid twenties imaculately dressed in the latest high society fashion, works with the air of confidence only possible to 'those' from Bellerophon. A handsome fellow with strong features and a physicue enhanced by exceptional tailoring.
" Since I dropped out of Bellerophon Prime Medical university daddy has removed access to one of my trust funds, plus home has become a fright full bore, so i've decided to see how common people live, I've not a qualified doctor but two years at Bellerophon Prime is probably worth four years at any other university (whiny snorty laugh) which is my room?
If you want stats i have them. ( I kind of like this guy even though he slightly one dimensional. ) ( medical can be swapped with law if it suit the crew better)
I have ideas of darker filcher character, but its not fully form, he would have more of an interesting back story.
PBP: Sebastion Wriggleworth-Smythe (Serenity) PBP: Sera (Shadowrun)

Re: Recruiting for Serenity RPG
I'd be interested. Like to make my own character. Greenhorn/Veteran/BDH? Hopeing to run my own Serenity adventure in the near future, have not played yet.

Re: Recruiting for Serenity RPG
I have a few ideas my first is
A female veteran independant soldier horribly scarred from the war, still consumed with anger, still unable to let go - not even certain she would ever want to. She "well rounded" in combat with a nod towards covert and discipline, willpower being her overriding attribute. I think this could be developed beyond 1 dimension in finding ways to channel that anger while interacting in the story. I have a backstory if she end up fitting in, and have other ideas if another character type will support the group better.

Re: Recruiting for Serenity RPG
I'm more than up for joining the game if you've got any spots open left. I'm really new to the system, but i've bought up all the books, and looked up plenty of material online. I'm capable of playing any kind of role that isn't already in use. I've made more than a few characters in my spare time. Let me know what's up.

Re: Recruiting for Serenity RPG
There's still room. I don't think I see any mechanics or pilots yet. Perhaps a discussion of what roles the group needs is in order.

Re: Recruiting for Serenity RPG
my current idea for a pilot is a alliance pilot who was shot down over Hera during a bombing run. He never fully agreed with the war, but he was a soldier at heart. He prevented his ship from crashing into a near by ranch and was seriously injured. With the loss of the use of his legs he was captured by brown coat sympathizers. He was healed and sentenced to execution after interrogation, but the owner of the ranch had a lot of pull with the brown coats and was able to protect him. He saw the horrors of what the war was doing to the innocent and couldn't stomach the alliance anymore. The sympathizers were able to get his patrol vessel up and running and after proving his worth on so called suicide missions he gained the trust of many brown coats. During the battle of Serenity Valley he defied orders and flew in to rescue brown coats on the retreat and pull out the injured. He is classified as MIA in the Alliance, but still has many friends inside the military.

Re: Recruiting for Serenity RPG
I like my initial thought the best, but could pull an OCD mechanic out of my hat if someone else isn't interested in covering that ground.
See I'm flexable maybe I should run a gymnast.
