Moon [mo] 3:16 - Planet Designation "Bosch"

    OOCWelcome!

Lt. Coghill looks over your squad with a sneer.

"Segeant 'Doc', your objective today is of vital importance to our mission.  You and your men will make planetfall with here", he drones, pointing to a highlighted portion of the holo-map, "with several other units.  From there, your squad will make your way here, secure the area and proceed to clear it.  Assuming you don't *** up and get yourselves killed, and further assuming you properly pefrom your duties, a lander will arrive with more troops to send the bugs in the area to hell.  Your orders from that point will be to assist with setting up the command base and patrolling the immediate area."

Lt. Coghill brings up a holo-display of planetary scan data.  "The planet, designation 'Bosch'", he continues, "is lightly-wooded plains for the most part, surrounded by a dense mist, limiting standard visibility.  With our sensor suites this shouldn't actually prove to be a problem.  It is unknown whether the same applies to the enemy, though they are not to be underestimated.  Data indicates that while relatively primative, they have a dangerous capacity for advancement and as such are a threat to all we hold dear.  Morphologically, they appear as thin, 6-limbed 'cat-men'.  Armaments appear to be forged metal blades.  There is no reason that this should prove challenging."

"Are there any questions?" he intones in a manner that suggests that he'd really prefer that there weren't.

Re: 3:16 - Planet Designation "Bosch"

Shortly, Doc's troopers are all strapped into a military drop pod.  Several of the newer recruits vomit as the ship drops fantastically quickly toward the surface.  Most manage to get their faceplates open in time as well.  The ship shakes violently as it hurtles through the atmosphere, but it's nothing that doesn't always happen anyway.  Many of the troopers, even some of the more experienced, try to hide the fact that they're "white-knuckling" it the whole time as they try to keep it together.

Without warning, there's a wash of noiseless sound, an inaudible hum that shakes in the squad's ears.  One of the pilots in the fore-cabin begins screaming like mad, and suddenly the drop pod begins to spin wildlly out of control!

    OOCWhat now?

Re: 3:16 - Planet Designation "Bosch"

"Och, feck. Fit's the eejit deein'?" Monsignor mumbled darkly to himself. The answer, he immediately thought, "Gittin' himself killed." Judging by the scream, either there's a saboteur on board... or a deadly creature of sorts. Even if someone were to dispose of whatever was responsible for causing this ruckus, there'd still be a need of someone to pilot the pod before it hit the ground.

The corporal's head throbbed in pain. Much too early for this bull****. Much too early to be thinking at all even.

With a heavy sigh, Monsignor undid the straps which bound him. Clamouring to his feet, he knead his brow, trying to keep in mind what was to be done. "Who's comin' wit me tae the 'ore-cabin?! Ah cannae pilot meself, y'ken, scunners." His breath carried a wry stink, coupled with a menacing sneer...

OOCIs this a bit much? I'm going easy on the writing, so please tell me if I should lighten it up more. I hope it's fine if Monsignor is Scottish... I'll translate the accent if needed.

It just came to me that maybe I should roll to see if Monsignor undoes his straps or stands up successfully, since both could be NFA actions?

Re: 3:16 - Planet Designation "Bosch"

OOCGolgotha, that's fine.  It's one of the benefits (and perhaps saving graces) of PBFs.  That said, maybe you can reel in the accent a little.  It's cool, but it's barely intelligable.  Maybe aim for something closer to Star Trek's "Scotty", just for the readers' sakes. Ethan Wink

Before Cpl. Monsignor can finish the thought, he's pitched across the cabin by the wildly spinning ship!  Righting himself as best he can in the near-freefall, at least the gibbering and growling at the back of his (and everyone's) mind has died down.  The klaxons, however, shout louder and more rapidly as the ship kareens toward Bosch's cloudy surface.

OOCWell, lets just say that real scottish accents are much easier to undersant then your typing

Jet turns his massive frame in his seat "What the hell's that mynock doing? Man a little turbulance and everyone loses there cool. Ah well, we are falling a bit fast. Maybe a little sacre will do those pilotes good. Jet then unstapes himself and positions his titen bulk on one side of the door to support Monsignor "Can't let him take all the blame anyway" he thinks to himself.

OOCYes, yes.  But best not to pick nits, even in fun.

That said, are either of you actually doing anything, or just standing up there behind the pilots, because the ground is coming up fast.

Re: 3:16 - Planet Designation "Bosch"

Jet, barely able to keep his feet, sees the pod's pilots.  Both are alive, but totally out of it, twitching and gibbering senselessly in their harnesses.  Blood trickles from the nose of the near one.  No enemy is visible.  The readouts on the control panel flash brightly in the color of "Imminent Doom".  It is likely that everybody is going to die if something isn't done immediately.

Believing there to be a monstrous creature in the fore-cabin, Monsignor rushes after Jet. He doesn't bother to take a weapon with him, since that's the least of his worries.

"Alright Boys, we may have just been EMP'ed so keep your straps on, looks like the Corporal's Already taking care of your whiny little hides."

As Doc says that to his fellow troopers he is going up to see about the cockpit, Asking Monsignor for status.

"Corporal, Whats the status, are we Flyable?"

Re: 3:16 - Planet Designation "Bosch"

OOCOther than the freaked-out pilots and the fact that the ship is out of control, everything seems fully functional.  Power, gauges, controls, etc. all seem to be in working order.
