Re: PDQ: Trouble in Tirilla
Padre Bullock
I have just come back into town from an enforced period of isolation and meditation in the wilderness. A penance set by my Bishop as a result of my having angered him...again. I march as fast as my stubbly legs can carry me to the 'Slurp and Burp', my favorite Inn and order a whole goose and a pitcher of buttermilk. I soon realize that my enforced Fasting has shrunk my stomach and I am unable to do more than a normal mans share of the huge bird. A shame since I have paid for it. I look around and see an acquaintance.
"Ho Thomas," I call out in my usual bellow, "Come join me and help me peck away at this goose. Come lad, come and join me for I am a lonely man and desire company that is not foolish."
With my usual finesse I drink straight from the huge wooden pitcher, my last bite of goose still only half chewed. A little buttermilk gets up my nose and I have an unfortunate reaction. I sneeze, I hiccup and I burp all at the same time. The resulting mess means I get some down my windpipe and that makes me cough and I get some on Thomas's feet. A little buttermilk, a little goose, a little half chewed rye bread. What a waste. I hope he has a good sense of humor I think to myself.
---------------------
Thomas Pinehill
I shake my leg to get that half chewed goose off and sigh "After all this time and you still eat the food like it would rot if you would take your time eating it! But thanks for the offer i think it'll go down nicely with my beer"
I cut small piece off the goose and take a bite. "So what have you done in these past few months. Have you been courting young maidens like others with your status have done?" I asked with smile on my face as I do know he is a priest but I do need a small payback.

Re: PDQ: Trouble in Tirilla
Padre Bullock
"Sigh, I have been sitting in the top of a tree praying during the nights and sleeping in a cave down by the Oola Oola River during the day as penance. The Bishop was teaching some new acolytes a basic healing spell and he was doing it all wrong so I called him an idiot. He didn't take it well and he sent me out to learn a little humility. I wasn't allowed to see the sky during the day and I wasn't allowed to touch the ground during the day between two new moons."
I grinned
"I have to hand it to the old boy, he might be a better administrator than a cleric but he does have a wicked sense of humor.
What about you still pining after every skirt under the age of senile? Ask my wife Thomas and she will fix you up with one of her warriors as soon as she gets back from wherever she is killing things."
I laughed
"At least it's peaceful when she is gone, the Bishop is a lot easier to get along with than she is. At least he can't hurt me.
Are you still scribbling and digging around in dusty old tomes or have you gotten yourself a real job yet."
I belched and scratched where it itched and got hit on the back of the head by Glokias the serving wench. I'm glad she is easier on me than the wife. Hmm maybe I should have married her. Then I looked at her mustache and decided maybe not. I gave her a wink to let her know I still loved her.
) Right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before.

Re: PDQ: Trouble in Tirilla
Lady Thelia Fey stands in the doorway to the Slurp 'n' Burp, hands on hips and lips pursed. Her guards hurry up from further down the street, looking flustered. Despite being a much nicer inn than the name would suggest, this is not the place for a noble lady to be in.
She is a tall, severe woman, dressed in a neck to ankle green dress with swallow tail sleeves. She is trying hard to hide her age behind layers of make-up and dye, but looks to be in her mid forties.
"Well? Where is he?" she demands. "I know he came here, he always runs to this pit when h-"
At this point she notices Padre Bullock sitting at his table. A look of intense distaste crosses her face. "Ah, I see you've returned then, Brother Bullock. I was wondering why so many geese have gone missing of late."
Before giving you a chance to respond, her expression turns pensive and she fixes you with a shrewd eye.
"My clerk is no doubt hiding somewhere here. When he shows up, bring him to my manor, I have need of both of you."

Re: PDQ: Trouble in Tirilla
Padre Bullock
I stand up abruptly knocking the table over, my goose rolling under the Lady's skirt and my buttermilk splashing onto her ungainly unnaturally long pointy shoes. "We may be brother and sister but you have no right to call me brother, I am PADRE BULLOCK and if I have to call you Lady then by the sweat of Tempus's blessed armpits you will call me by my rightful name and title."
I stand so angry I am shaking, if she wants my help, which she most assuredly needs or she wouldn't have come in person to ask, she will apologize.
) Right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before.

Re: PDQ: Trouble in Tirilla
With steely eyes Lady Fey stares you down. Her look reminds you that even though you are of equal rank in most noble and social circles, she is far more in favour with the court than you, not to mention the king himself. You can oppose her if you really want to, but it would not be a good idea.
"I will ignore this outburst, padre, provided you bring Pinehill to my manor before the next bell. You would do well to remember your manners by the time you arrive, certain noble guests will also be there."

Re: PDQ: Trouble in Tirilla
Moments after Lady Fey sweeps from the room the sound of a low whistle comes from the door as a slightly battered looking warrioress steps over the threshold. "Ah Padre, I see you're still making friends then?" Melissa smiles as she stands leaning on the door frame, letting her eyes sweep the room before entering. The sunlight catches her face and reveals a wde array of old scars as she holds out her hand for Bullock to shake. "By the sounds of it you might be needing me again, will the usual fee be alright?"
OoC: Sorry for the short post, but I had to leap in while I had the opening and I'm posting from work which is always a little bit dodgy
No. What you have are bullets and the hope that when your guns are empty I'm no longer standing, because if I am, you'll all be dead before you've reloaded.

Re: PDQ: Trouble in Tirilla
I come up from the basement after i am certain Lady Fey is not in tavern anymore and notice that I had left my cane and backbag below the table I had sit.
"Thank god she did not notice those or she would have turned this whole place apart. But I believe that we would be better to start heading towards her manor. After we finish that cooked bird you bought of course."
I greet Melissa while walking towards table where Bullock sits and cut new slice of the goose.

Re: PDQ: Trouble in Tirilla
Padre Bullock After my 'older' sister leaves I grin, same stand off, been butting heads with her since I was 8 years old when I found out she wasn't going to be able to cut me up and feed me to the dogs after all. We don't much care for each other but i would miss her, she is a constant in my life and you always know where you stand with her. Above her with her nose up your....ah never mind, or below her and if you don't face her down then her foot will be on your neck. I grin and shake the hand hard knowing my firm grip is barely a match for hers. "Melissa Grellham, haven't figured out a way to get yourself killed yet eh? Yep, fee is still the same, no I'll double it since I'm still a poor cleric and still have no money. You can help me finish the goose though as soon as I wipe it off. C'mon Thomas we only have half an hour to finish lunch before we go meet "Lady Fey". If you are still afraid just stand behind Melissa. Hey that's an idea, Thomas, meet Melissa, a good woman, Melissa meet Thomas a good man." I wink at her, "Don't hurt him. I like him and he really is a good man."

Re: PDQ: Trouble in Tirilla
I answer to Padre Bullock "Just how long we've known each other by now? Isn't it bit over ten yers now. You know that I am only afraid of her power in Royal court thanks to her 'alliances'. And unlike you I do not have family connections nor wealth save my back anymore, as I do not exist to them anymore."
I turn to face Melissa "I don't think we've met each other before. May I introduce myself. I am Thomas Pinehill, Royal Clerk and scholar of this shire."

Re: PDQ: Trouble in Tirilla
"Pleasure to make your acquaitance Thomas, or would you prefer Thom? I'm Mellisa, Mel, or that scarred cow, depending on who's addressing me." Mel gracefully sits and eyes the goose, "Sounds good, it was a long walk and I'm rather famished"
No. What you have are bullets and the hope that when your guns are empty I'm no longer standing, because if I am, you'll all be dead before you've reloaded.

Re: PDQ: Trouble in Tirilla
The Padre watches on forlornly as Melissa and Thomas eat the rest of his Goose in what seems like seconds.
Before long they are all walking back up the hill to the Fey house. Despite his noble status, people in the street stare as Bullock passes, his reputation is well known here and during his penance rumours spread that he had been permanently exiled from the kingdom.
When you finally arrive at Lady Fey's gates all three of you are almost immediately herded into her drawing room by her stewards and made to sit. She enters the room a moment later and slaps a piece of folded parchment down in front of Thomas. On it is the seal of the prince (the padre's second cousin), who often runs affairs of the nation for his father. The seal has been broken and the letter obviously read. As Thomas picks the letter up Fey snaps "Read it!" and stomps from the room.
The letter is addressed to Fey and is fairly short. It starts with a summary of recent diplomatic friction between Belor (your kingdom) and Tirilla, a nation to the south. Most of it is already known to you, a few skirmishes have broken out along the borders and trade routes have shut down lately. Tirilla has always been an important ally and their numerous ports make it a wealthy nation, so it is vital peace is restored for Belor's economic future.
The most important part of the letter is the last paragraph, however. As Thomas gets to it he begins reading aloud.
"-and so it has been decided that your daughter Airell will be sent to Tirilla to marry the current crown prince to form a bond between our nations. A coach will arrive in three days time to take her across the mountains, she will be met at our embassy by the ambassador and given lodging there until the marriage is negotiated."
The letter goes on a little longer but there is nothing else of much interest in it. You realise from the wording of the letter that no negotiations have even been made for the marriage and Fey's daughter is just being sent there in the hopes that a deal can be struck. The tone of the letter also suggests that she is not to return without the prince's hand in marriage.
As Thomas finishes reading the letter out to his two companions Fey comes back into the room, trying to look as composed as she can. She gestures to the letter and tells Thomas in no uncertain terms that he will be accompanying Airell on her journey to Tirilla. She then turns to leave, completely ignoring both the Padre and Melissa.
