    [Chronica Feudalis] Sibling Rivalry

OOCWelcome to the game!  We're going to jump right into the action and hope for the best.
Sir Stephen of Bristol, having been framed for murder and worse by his vile brother, Sir Adam, is on the run from armed persuers.  It's been several days of chase, and now they are closing in as Sir Stephen, sharing his horse with Brother Henry, and William Glenn, sharing his horse with David Gallows, make a mad dash through the forest in an attempt to escape.  All they can see around them is a blur of greenery and all they can hear is the panting of tired horses and the thundering rumble of charging hooves.  As they crest a hill, a narrow stream comes into view.
OOCThere are five armed men on horseback chasing you.  You can keep dodging straight through the trees (Difficulty d8) or you can try to jump the stream (Difficulty d10).  Only Sir Stephen and William make the rolls (as Brother Henry and David are just along for the ride).  You have to choose the same thing if you don't want to split up the group.  Why would you choose the more difficult option?  Because if you make it, but the guards don't, then they fall behind.

Roll the die for your Ride skill and a d20 for your Horse, keeping the highest.  I'll be rolling a d8 or a d10 as appropriate.

    Re: [Chronica Feudalis] Sibling Rivalry

OOCYou know what?  The horses are Exhuasted (d6).  So your roll loses its highest die of d6 or lower.  This doesn't affect Sir Stephen, who is a very good rider, but William has to drop his d4 and only roll the d20.  However, this does give him an extra Ardor, bringing him to 4.

    Re: [Chronica Feudalis] Sibling Rivalry

    Sirs Stephen
I say we make this jump! We can't keep this pace up on our already overburdened horses, we have to cross the river. Anything to give us an edge over our pursuers.
I spur my mount into a last burst of speed, comfortable in the knowledge my companions will follow my lead.
OOCSorry to push this onto you straight off the bat, guys, if anyone has a major objection to this plan let me know.

    12

Oh great, that's more than a fail...

    Re: [Chronica Feudalis] Sibling Rivalry

OOC to MariachiDevilAt least you didn't roll all '1's and hurt your horse.  For what it's worth, I've still got to roll 1d10 for the stream.  It's possible that I might roll a '1' or '2', allowing you to find a narrow spot.  We'll see what Old Grump gets on his d20 before I roll.  Even if you do fail, it's a "3 strikes" rule, as each failure marks off a point of Ardor.  (And congratulations on being the first poster to this thread!)

OOCThe priest is cool with either. Also which person's horse am I on? Just wondering if he can see or something like that.

OOC Sorry Xeric, I tried not to hurl us to our deaths, but that's the way the dice go, lets see what this river has in store for us...

    Re: [Chronica Feudalis] Sibling Rivalry

Everyone tries to vault the stream, but it's just too wide, and the horses balk.  After circling them around to get them under control, Sir Stephen and William finally force them into the stream.  The icey water rides up the horses flanks and soaks their riders up to the knees, but they quickly emerge on the other bank and continue their flight through the trees.

A dared glance back shows a couple of the outriders having a similar problem, but the rest begin to gain on Stephen's entourage.

Soon, Sir Stephen passes a large standing stone.  Beyond that, the hill slopes to the left, becoming rocky.
OOCYou can take the chase uphill (d10) or downhill (d6) or down the steep, rocky slope (d12).

    William

Gadzooks boss, er I mean Sire, My nether regions is getting tired of this saddle,  I'm going to get off for awhile and practice my archery on yonder varlots.  I'll slow them down somewhat and mayhaps if the Lady of honorable men smiles upon me I'll reduce their numbers.  You get yer noble keester up on this hill and take my horse.

    I grin

Besides methinks I be better off on foot leading them down hill through those loverly little rocks than they will on horseback.  Tell me where to meet up with yer an I'll be along bye and bye.

    Re: [Chronica Feudalis] Sibling Rivalry

    Sir Stephen:
"You'd do better to remember who you are addressing, William. I trust your judgement but do not presume to order me about!" This is all said with what little mirth I can muster, but I am actually a little annoyed at William's tone, he is hard to get along with when you're weary.
"I'll ride a little way up the hill, you wait here to ambush them and I'll return to your aid as quickly as I can. Brother Henry, you'd best hold on for now, dismount as quickly as you can when I pull my horse around. David, cover the good brother, I leave him in your care."

OOCAs for skills, Sir Stephen can command and decieve, but if he is going to get his honour back he'll also need to charm.

    Re: [Chronica Feudalis] Sibling Rivalry

William dismounts and takes up position as the other three, still mounted, make for the nearby hilltop.  Nearly instantly, the outriders arrive, thundering through the trees.
OOCOld Grump give me an Aim roll (Roll d6 for your skill and a separate d6 for your bow *no modifiers*)

MariachiDevil give me another Ride roll (Ride & horse)

Fanboy, you're alone on that horse!  Give me a Ride roll (d4 & d20)

Don't forget that you can, if you want, spend a point of Ardor to Invoke one of your Aspects before you roll to add a d8 (if it applies).  Like, Stephen could use Honorable Knight Errant to help his Ride and William could use Hardened Fighter to help his Aim.

    Re: [Chronica Feudalis] Sibling Rivalry

OOC to MariachiDevilTo charm you would use Entice, which you aren't bad at, but it's a good skill to improve.  We're going to assume that Brother Henry has taken some time to train you in the finer points of diplomacy, so you have a better chance of actually advancing the skill.
